You all kept asking, so here it is!

After countless requests, I’m pleased to now offer my 4" (100 mm) ball-valve blast gate as a mostly assembled, servo-ready kit. This is the same ball-valve design and servo-mounting setup I use in my own workshop.

The gate itself arrives assembled, with the adjustable servo-mounting system and a selection of printed servo-arm adapters included. Simply install your compatible servo motor, connect your electronics, and configure the required open and closed positions.

This kit is ideal for anyone who doesn’t own a 3D printer, or simply wants the printing and gate assembly taken care of so they can concentrate on the electronics and automation.

Please note: A servo motor, electronic controller, wiring, power supply, and control hardware are not included. Some final assembly and configuration will be required.

Without an electronics case

  • Ideal for those who plan to design, print, or source their own enclosure for the control electronics of their choice.
  • With my Arduino-compatible electronics enclosure
    The specific enclosure I designed to house the Arduino Nano and expansion shield shown in my video.


Key Features

  • Gate supplied assembled
    The main ball-valve gate is already assembled and tested. You only need to install your chosen servo motor, fit the appropriate servo-arm adapter, and complete your electronic setup.
  • Universal adjustable servo mounting
    The updated mounting plate and adjustable brackets are designed to accommodate a wide range of commonly available micro, medium, and large servo motors.
    For reliable operation however, medium servos rated at 5 kg or greater are recommended, with larger gates or demanding installations potentially benefiting from a 20 kg servo.
  • Multiple servo-arm adapters included
    A selection of printed servo-arm adapters is supplied to accommodate a range of common servo-horn shapes and profiles.
  • Ball-valve design
    Provides excellent airflow with minimal restriction when fully open compared with many traditional sliding blast gates.
  • Printed for workshop durability
    Components are printed in PETG and/or PLA, depending on the component and current material availability. The gate is intended for woodworking dust collection and general workshop extraction.
  • Designed for standard 100 mm ducting
    The inlet and outlet ports measure 100 mm OD and 96 mm ID. A suitable coupler or flexible hose is recommended for connection.
  • Individually printed, assembled, and tested
    Each gate is printed and assembled by hand, then tested to ensure that the ball opens and closes cleanly. Minor cosmetic marks, layer variations, or light scratches may be present, but these will not affect operation.
  • Designed for hobby workshop use
    Ideal for home and hobby workshops. This product is not a certified commercial or industrial dust-extraction component.

 

Every unit is printed from durable PETG/PLA, assembled by hand, and tested to make sure it opens and closes cleanly. If you’ve wanted the convenience of a printed blast gate without the print time or assembly work, this is it.
